I really cant recommend this enough! If you want to support the dev, it's only $3.00 right now (buy through paypal, activate from within the app preferences) but it gives you crazy control over your homescreen.
Also, in terms of tips & tricks: press and hold on any app (on your desktop or in the drawer) and then hold over the trash can at the bottom, wait a moment and it will say "Drop to uninstall"!! Much faster than going through either settings or the marketplace.
